Rigour and speed in decision

'Internos' in Latin means 'between us' and it is a key strength and aim of Short and Thornton to waste no time in mobilising the collective IQ of the broader Internos team in making strategic proceed/stop decisions. Both believe that such decision making must be rigorous, fast and in full knowledge of the risks being taken. They are aware of the lost opportunities and disillusioned contacts that result from prevarication.

Benefits of a fast and informed decision process apply to both 'go' and 'no go' outcomes. 'If the network throws up an opportunity which is a bad strategic fit', says Thornton, 'best to tell the contact at once, with reasons. It's never resented and can lead to a flow of more appropriate offers'. But, even more forcibly, quick decisions to commit, especially in 'distress' scenarios, can result in spectacular deals. 'We will present to our highly qualified Investment Committee before committing,' says Short 'their key role is to critique and improve the 'go' recommendations and ensure that all risks are considered'.
